Prescriptions against bu'šānu-disease from two Neo-Babylonian tablets
Abstract
This paper aims to discuss therapeutic prescriptions against the disease bu'sanu while providing an edition of two Neo-Babylonian medical tablets (BM 66560 and BM 67158) originating probably from Sippar. The importance of this disease shows in the fact that prescriptions for bu'sanu are attested since the Old Babylonian period, as well as that the sequence of therapeutic treatments and medical incantation forms a separate section in the sub-series 'Teeth' of the Nineveh Medical Compendia. Further medical recipes dealing with bu'sanu are known from various medical compendiums dated to the Neo- and Late Babylonian periods, and the two Babylonian tablets published here reflect the continuation of the Neo-Assyrian text tradition and also represent the local Babylonian medical traditions.
