Zur Klärung der assyrischen Distanzangaben Bemerkungen und Alternativ-vorschläge zu einem Kapitel in R. Pruzsinszkys Mesopotamian Chronology (CChEM 22)

Abstract

The following pages present a response to a recent publication. First, I focus on the chapter R. Pruzsinszky devoted to the Assyrian Distanzangaben in her book on 2nd Millennium Chronology. It will be demonstrated that her overview and treatment of the Assyrian time-spans contain a number of problematical passages. These affect both her own explanations of the Assyrian Distanzangaben as well as her presentation of the works of other contributors. This critical assessment is followed by my own views in the form of a “Leitfaden zu den Distanzangaben”. It can be demonstrated that most of the problems connected to the Distanzangaben can now be regarded as solved. An illustration depicting the connections between the various Distanzangaben furthers the understanding of this hitherto often -but not always-misinterpreted group of data.
