Vermischtes zu den assyrischen Distanzangaben

Abstract

The article’s issues are various aspects of Assyrian time-spans (Distanzangaben), their chronological implications and their usage in recent scientific discussion. It can be shown that not only the chronological data has to be observed meticulously -there are even relations between the wording of the relevant text passages and aspects of the calculation. The evidence suggests that no chronology put forward so far can be upheld - especially not the one based on the solar eclipse reconstructed in the Mari Chronicle. Demonstrating and applying the Assyrian system of calculating time-spans the discrepancy between the two oldest Distanzangaben can be discerned. Based on this new result it can be shown that the Distanzangaben are in reconciliation with the Venus Data. Therefore a chronology 24 years lower than the classical Middle Chronology is proposed.
